Practice, Practice, Practice

One of my goals this year with my photography was to continue to practice, take lots of photos and work on different techniques. Luckily I get to spend some quality time with my husband too... here are a few shots of my favorite model from this weekend. Thanks, Love.

Birthday Wishes!

Laura, I wish you a day with sunshine and unexpected laughter. I wish you a year of overwhelming blessings and love. I wish you a lifetime of never ending hope and happiness. You are so beautiful and amazing. I hope you have a wonderful birthday today. xoxox

Baby on Board!

My sister, Laura, is expecting her third boy in September and I can hardly wait to meet my new little buddy. I love watching her belly grow and sitting and wondering what this new little boy will be like, what will make him laugh, what he will be when he grows up...or how he will be able to put up with the non-stop love from his Aunt Kate!

But, we wait... until September... and he will be here soon. Love you already, little buddy. xoxo

The angels among us

You are just never the same once you feel the love of Sr. Monique (right) and her sister Tine (left). Just by being around them you want to be a better person, love more, laugh more and remember to count your blessings everyday- Twice! Without a doubt they are true angels among us...

Bill and I had the honor of having them both for dinner tonight to celebrate Sr. Monique's 81st B-day... 81 years young, I tell you...for those of you who know her, you know what I am talking about! What amazing and incredible women! Love you both- Lots and Lots!

My Love, My Blessing

My love, you mean the world to me...
I love you so much.

Shadow Puppets

I have always loved shadows... from making butterflies and birds on the wall of my childhood bedroom to watching tree leaves dance on the wall of my office. For some reason I love how shadows distort what we see and almost change something simple into art. This one on the wall of my living room. :)

Little Miss Sweetness

I just love following little Miss Campbell around with a camera. She always provides me with a great shot. Here she is in our backyard playing a great game of peak-a-boo with me. What a fun and classic shot! Thanks Campbell for always tolerating me and my camera! I just can't resist your sweetness.

Bundles of Love

Last weekend I headed back to Chicago for some fun. What a great trip...old friends, old haunts, new memories...

While I was there I spent an entire afternoon with Amy (Hiniker) Robert and her two, sweet 4 mo. old bundles of love- Carolyn and Dylan. It is amazing to watch your friends become parents. Something within me just glowed as I watched Amy, who I have known my whole life, be such an incredible mother. I brought my camera and we had some fun taking photos, here is one of my favorites. It is easy to fall head over heals in love with her twins...

I wish you a year of milk and honey

I know this may just be a picture of a picture, but this is not any ordinary picture of a girl. This is Florence, she is from a small village in Rwanda and we have cooresponded for about a year now. We have never met, but hope to someday! She just sent me this photo and with it a note that said, "I wish you a year of milk and honey." Does life get any more pure? I send her and her family so much love and took this photo of her photo because she is on my mind today... "Hi Florence, may God always bless you!"

April Afternoon...

Bill's co-worker, Gina, grows these beautiful orchids in her garden and gave us a few to brighten up an April afternoon. I couldn't help but bring them out into the sun today and capture all their glory! I am definately ready for Spring!

Thank you so much, Gina. They are truly beautiful!

All that and the Kitchen Sink!

Tonight Bill and I had a great evening with Joe, Becca and 2-year old Campbell Mahoney. They are some of our favorite people and we are so blessed to have them in our lives.
With lack of any toys at our house, Campbell found some entertainment in, what else? but the kitchen sink. How could I not grab my camera?
What a great night... all that and the kitchen sink!

Maxim Magazine

I got some exciting news this week. This photo I took, which is featured in an Outward Bound public service announcement (PSA), was placed nationally in the 2008 April issue of Maxim Magazine. YEA!If you look closely, you can see my photo credit on the bottom left hand side of the photo. My hope is that this PSA continues to get placed, we get more students on Outward Bound, and you see it in a magazine you are reading! Keep your eyes out! :)

Are they done yet?

I couldn't help but grab my camera and laugh when I found my brother, Michael, waiting in front of the oven for the chocolate chip cookies to get done. I guess you are never too old... :)

When life is good, lick the bowl

I love this photo series of 17 mo. old Leif. It has got to be pure instinct... when it is good, you just can't help but lick the bowl (and hope that no one is looking).

Rub-a-dub-dub

Rub-a-dub-dub two brothers in the tub... Those who know me, know that I spend a ton of time loving on my nephews Thor and Leif. I was over at their house tonight and captured this shot at bath time. Classic... don't we all have at least one photo like this?

Games with Big Rewards!

I scream, you scream... oh yea, ice cream! Leif is all laughs as he shares his ice cream with Thor. Thor is not complaining. He is loving this game. A fun shot just capturing the fun moments that fill our days.

Isomorphic Correspondence

Isomorphic Correspondence... I learned about this in a photography class. It is the emotional connection you have with a photo, where you are unable to separate your emotions from your ability to critque the quality of the actual photo. Well, call me guilty... I don't care. :) These are my little loves, Thor and Leif.

Spiderman Freedom

Nothing says "freedom" better than being able to fix your Spiderman bike, in your Spiderman underwear! Seriously, does it get any better than that? Not according to my nephew Thor, who got a new bike for his 3rd birthday and needed to spend a little time "fixing it" with an adjustable wrench before he could ride it. I love this photo... it captures the innocence of a boy, worrying about nothing else than the excitment of getting a new bike. Love you, buddy!

Falling in Love

Bill and I headed to the mountains this past weekend to spend time with our incredible friends, Tim and Susie Grade and their dog Sam. I cannot express how much their friendship means to us. We were all overwhelmed by the beauty of the Colorado mountains as we spent the morning snowshoeing and "breaking trail" near Frisco. Breathtaking!

Then there is Sam... yes, I think I am falling in love. Sam, is the Old English Sheep Dog that I cannot get enough of. I captured this shot as he bolted towards us on the trail...a fun-loving, "gentle giant."

What a great weekend.

You play by MY rules!

Last night I went to watch my brother, Michael, referee a highschool basketball game that was held at the CU-Boulder events center. What a game! Double overtime. It amazes me how Michael can always keep his cool and make the call. At the game I captured this shot. I love the intensity...it is saying to me - "You play by MY rules."

More fun to come!

2008 "Walk the Walk" Campaign

I am blessed that my family and friends are so wonderfully supportive of the 2008 “Walk the Walk” Campaign. What is this? Well, it is the official name I have given to my commitment of making my dreams a reality this year – everyday, one day at a time. Not “Talk the Walk” or “Walk the Talk”… but the idea of doing it, making it happen, taking action…a little bit everyday -- “WALK the WALK”... and get closer to my dream. What dream am I specifically talking about? Well, in 2008 I want to formalize my photography work, create a website, take more pictures, continue to get better at my techniques and then, with any luck and talent, it will all build demand to truly make something of “Kate Borgelt Photography.” A dream now… but you just wait! :)

Today, as part of the "Walk the Walk" Campaign… I started this blog! :)

Here’s to getting closer to dreams everyday…more good stuff to come!
